Biography

I QSL 100% via LoTW, eQSL and QRZ. I also respond to paper cards sent to me - no SASE required. I consider a QSL a final courtesy of a QSO - wish more folks believed in that simple rule of thumb.

First licensed on January 16, 1972 as WN9IWY. Ham Radio has been about the only constant activity during my life. I've retired and intend to spend a lot of time re-earning WAS, WAC and DXCC (all of which I now hold). Recently developed an interest in digital modes - love me some FT8!

My former callsigns are WN9IWY (1972-1974), WN9RVM (1975-1977), KA9CQW (1978-1981), KC9RO (1981-1983) and my current Extra Class callsign earned in 1983 in front of FCC examiners the hard way! 73's - See you on the air!

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

Kenwood TS590S, 40 meter dipole at 25', Random wire at 25', various other sticks up in the air for VHF/UHF, Kenwood TM-281, Baofeng UV5R. I have 50' of Rohn UBX tower but it currently is on the ground - needs to be inspected and painted prior to reassembly and erection of the tower. Hope to get it finished by the start of winter 2018-2019 here in Central Illinois, and plan to put either a Gap Titan on top of the tower, or a Cushcraft R9 (which has horrible reviews but I may try it anyway)
