Biography

Electrical engineer (master's, Ga. Tech/Univ. Illinois) who changed career and practiced Medicine for 30+ years in Anesthesiology (including liver transplantation). Now I just volunteer at the homeless clinic and pursue amateur radio, including Emergency Service, Antennas, Equipment Building, microBitx, repairing boat anchor radios --- and writing books about emergency voice and digital communications.

WINLINK system operator on both HF/VHF. Our thriving club (qsl.net/nf4rc) and associated systems cover more than 5000 sq miles with vhf WINLINK. Also a SHARES systems operator.

Asst. Southeast ARRL Division Director (thanks, Mickey!) and active teacher, ARRL Field Instructor, ARRL Field Examiner. Our club does one Tech class per year and one General or Extra class each year, alternating. We are very involved with the Alachua County Emergency Operations Center, and hold an annual Conference, the Florida Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Conference, generally in February or March. The Conference includes a written lecture text, and an HSEEP-based full scale deployment exercise.
