I discovered radio in the third grade when I ordered a crystal radio kit through the mail. I have been hooked on radio ever since.
After attending weekly CW classes at the Carrolton Illinois city hall, kindly provided by my Elmer George Graue (Silent Key) I passed my Novice exam in seventh grade. The General ticket came in ninth grade and followed by the First Class Commercial License in the twelfth grade. I made Amateur Extra Class while studying Electrical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Most of my career was devoted to developing communications and radio systems.
This included the design of Commercial Maritime Mobile SSB antennas, X-band and S-Band Microwave antennas and Sonar systems.
My current amateur interests include QRP CW, magnetic antenna design, 2 Meter FM and 160 meters AM operation. I also enjoy programming Windows apps for amateur use including signal processing software using 64 bit Assembly language.
Why the KN9I Call? ... My first Novice call was KN9PWI so I shortened this to KN9I with the Extra class.
I am looking forward to retirement in a few years so that I can devote much more time to the hobby and to the St. Charles Amateur Radio Club.
