Received Technical license April, 2012, General license June, 2012. Yes, I'm Brand Spanking New Ham. Wanted be be a Ham in the 80's, but work, etc. got in the way. Had to wait for retirement (2007) as Captain for USAirways. (PHX based)
Parachute Club of America "B" class parachutist #3239 - 1963-74. 613 jumps.
US Navy 1966-70. Seventh fleet (Pacific) sailor aboard Battleship USS New Jersey - BB-62. Tin can's USS John A. Bole - DD-755, USS Edson - DD-946. Rate: Machinist Mate - MM-3. Main Engineroom Throttleman. Black Gang and Bilge Water Snipe.
Navy pilot Dad taught me to fly in 1957. Received Private Pilots's license 1966. AirlineTransport Rating 1970. Flew for numerous flight operations from 1970 on including 5 airlines in 8 cities. 14 household moves. (airlines do like to die) - 36,000 flight hours in 55 years.
Currently I'm a beekeeper in Corrales, NM (The bees do all the flying for me now)
I operate an ICOM-7000 attached to a Butternut HF-9V. A Cushcraft ARX-2B on the roof for 2m plus one antenna for 70cm. A Buddipole 16' transportable for fishing trips to Colorado. Kenwood mobile in the truck, and a Baofeng UV-5R micro HT with Diamond antenna plus Tiger Tail mod for my belt loop. (I have an excellent elmer!)
