Biography

I have been operating on HF since 1968 using mostly battery power at QRP levels. Currently, my operating preferences follow my professional life as a software developer, using mostly digital modes; e.g. PSK31, JT-65, JT-9 and FT8. Random wire antennas erected at my QTH make efficient operation possible on the 60- through 10-meter bands, but lower HF bands don't work well from my condo due to space restrictions. So, I occasionally go portable to operate on 80- and 160-meters.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

Transceiver: Icom IC-7100, normally running 5 to 30 watts out on digital modes.

Antenna: 12.5-meter fiberglass vertical fed by an MFJ-16010 Tuner, or a home-made magnetic loop antenna using an MFJ-936B loop tuner.

Computer: MSI Laptop with 6GB of memory and 15-inch display running 64-bit Windows 7.

Sound & Interface hardware: Using USB port on IC-7100 for CAT and audio.

Freeware: WSJTX v1.8.0 rc2 for JT, MFSK and FT8 modes. DigiPan 2.0 for PSKxx and for Hellschrieber.

Batteries: KE0E operates almost exclusively on battery power; base-station operation uses heavy-duty marine batteries and portable operation (biking and walking) uses 18-AH gel-cells.

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
