Biography

I started in radio back when I was a teenager. My father introduced me to CB (KALD8778) and my fascination with radio began. I can remember many nights sitting in my bedroom talking on my base station dad got for me. My curiosity then took me to 10 meter, and the quest for my amateur license. I began working on friends radios performing repairs, and upgrades. Then, as always does, life happened, and my radio endeavor faded for a while. Recently, a couple of fellows I currently work with encouraged me to get my license. I kind of took this in passing, until I happened across one of those inexpensive dual band hand held radios. I ordered one with the idea of using it for an over grown scanner. Being that I spent many years as a volunteer firefighter, and worked in law enforcement for a Pittsburgh housing development. In addition, my younger brother is currently a police officer and deputy sheriff, so I thought I could use the radio to listen to him. I programed the hand held, and just for old time sake, programed the K3PSP/WA3COM local 2m repeater. I sat and listened to the WA3COM nets, and got the itch back to get my license. Thanks to Bud (N3TIR) I was able to pass my technician test at a local clubs (WASH) ham fest in January 2015. Now I'm learning my way into HF, 2 meter, echo-link, and FLDIGI with the support, and kindness of all the guys, and gals from WACOM. I've got my home 2 meter, and HF setup, and who knows what will happen next. As long as my wife doesn't kick me out to the garage for all the radio talking I do and, picking up another hobby added to my world war 2 re-encating, things should be just fine.

UPDATE 7/18/15 - Just passed my general exam thanks to ALOT of studying, and the folks at WACOM. Offically on the air with HF now. Planning on upgrading to extra class in November.
