Biography
I got my first license in 1992 and finally upgraded to General in April of 2011. It was the best thing I ever did! I love working HF. I can't have an outdoor antenna or tower at my home so I work HF portable. So far I've worked into Europe and the Middle East from my QTH here in Florida and each contact has been a blast.
I hope to work you on HF one of these days.
I've been a professional broadcaster since high school. I got my start at WGRM-AM in Greenwood, MS. By the time I'd graduated high school I'd worked the 3 radio stations and one TV station in my home town.
My interest in ham radio started at KSLA-TV in Shreveport, Louisiana. I'd hang out talking to the engineers in the shop and marvel over their ham gear. At WLBT-TV in Jackson, Mississippi the interest grew and I ordered my first Novice study guide from the ARRL. Not long after I got a job offer at WDSU-TV in New Orleans and moved to the Big Easy. I got off my rear and passed the technican exam in 1992. I quickly passed the written portion of the general exam and got my code speed up to about 10wpm. Believe it or not I let the CSCE expire!
Fast forward more than a decade and I landed at WFTS-TV in Tampa, FL. I wound up working with another guy who also had his technician ticket. We agreed we'd fooled around long enough. Both of us upgraded to general in the spring of 2011.
Upgrading to general has opened a whole new world for me. I've met so many talented and wonderful people on the HF bands. I hope to work you one day!
