Biography

Formerly: KD8GRG

I have been interested in radio communications since the age of 10. At the age of 12, I studied to get my novice license but could never do the Morse Code well enough to pass the test.

When I was in my teens I got interested in CB radio (back when you had to apply for a license). I had both a Midland mobile radio in my 1970 VW bug and a Midland SSB radio with a StarDuster antenna at home. I lost interest in CB radio in my early 20s and sold my equipment.

In 2006 I decided I would try again for my Amateur radio license. I studied on and off for about a year and then just as I thought I was ready to take the test I found out that the book I had been studying from had recently become obsolete. So I started over and studied for a couple more months and in June of 2007 I took both the Technician and General exams, passed both of them and received my first license in July 2007. In December of 2007 I began studying for my Extra class exam and on April 10th 2008 I took and passed that exam.

I now operate on the 2 meter and 440 bands locally (mostly mobile) and HF with my Kenwood TS-440S/AT. Operating at 100 watts with a G5RV dipole, and 160 Meter 1/4 wave inverted L, both at 35' and a S9 31' vertical. I mostly hang out on the 20 and 40 meters bands and like to work DX and contests.

I also enjoy working on computers, eBaying (mostly selling), coin and currency collecting, stamp collecting.

Hope to catch you on the air! 73 Brad.
