Biography
I grew up around amateur radio. My entire family was licensed when I was growing up. Both my parents were licensed, and even my older sister got hers at the age 9. I finally got my when I was in high school, as KD6LVP.
Since graduating from high school, I have been bouncing back and forth between the states of California, Oregon, and Arizona. I'm currently back in California for the third time. At this point I don't know where home is but this time around I'm loving my job and where I live.
When my wife, (K6JME), and I moved to Oregon I upgraded to General. At that point I changed my callsign to K7QDX. It wasn’t till I moved back to Arizona for the second time that I upgraded to Extra.
Amateur radio has been a big part of my life. I have built and owned repeaters across three states. I was the owner of the KE6WUK repeater system in Southern California and the N7PIR repeater system in Oregon. Under my own callsign, three 900 repeaters in the Arizona, Oregon, and California. I have since moved my focus from repeaters to HF.
I currently operate a Flex-6400 at home or remotely into a KIO hex beam or 80-meter Windom wire antenna. I also operate mobile a Kenwood TS-480, with either Tarheel 200A screwdriver antenna or ham sticks while mobile.
I’ve been in some sort of broadcasting or production work for over 20 years. I’m currently a Broadcast Engineer for one of the television stations here in Sacramento.
