Biography
I became a HAM operator in Nov 2017. I am 70 yrs old and finally now I'm for fulling a dream of being a Ham operator.
I mainly became a Ham because of my desire to send and receive CW. I joined the Navy in 1965 and became a
Radioman and had to learn the morse code plus operate the teletype and voice circuits. I came out of Radioman school
with being able to copy 22 WPM. Later on my speed increased to 30 WPM in which I had to pass a 30 WPM test in which
I then recieved a Speed Key License. CW was like music to my ears and I worked the Ship to shore circuits at first then
later on communicated with our P3 patrol planes from the ground. It was a great experience being stationed at Navcomsta
Asmara Ethiopia for 1yr and a half and then spent 1 year at Navcomsta Iceland. It amazes me that at 70 yrs old and not
having copied CW for 50 yrs I can still copy at least 15 WPM. I'm hoping I can build up my speed although I doubt I'll
ever be able to copy 30 Wpm again. I'm okay with that. I was born and raised in Long Island, NY and after getting out of
the Navy I spent many years in Manassas and Warrenton, Virginia. I love being retired and 1 1/2 yrs ago we moved here
to New Bern, NC and we love being by the water, close to the atlantic beaches. I joined the Pamilco Amateur Radio
Society's Ham club and are getting to know many Ham operators and am learning so much more from just being around
these so experienced guys and gals. my goal is to be able to contact as many different Hams in all 50 states and all
the countries I can reach. I just became an SKCC century club member and my NR is #18611. Eddie Lyon
