山形県の最北に位置し、鉄路に奥羽本線と陸羽東西線、そして国道１３号、４７号線の交通
の要所地にあり、人口３７千人の市です。山々に囲まれた盆地で、夏は暑く、冬は降雪量が多く、豪雪地帯であります。一年をとおして、春の新緑、秋の紅葉など、四季折々の季節が感じられます。

Located in the northernmost part of Yamagata Prefecture, the city has a population of 37,000 and is located in the main transportation area of the Oku Main Line, Rikuu Tozai Line, and National Routes 13 and 47 on the railway. It is a basin surrounded by mountains. It is hot in summer and heavy snowfall in winter.
Throughout the year, you can feel the seasonal seasons such as spring fresh green and autumn leaves.
