Biography
ALSO: EA/IK2SGL from Spain
IK2SGL/OA8 from Peru
Thanks for looking me up on QRZ.COM.
Licensed in July 1992. Baptized with a Sommerkamp Ft-277E, a Tagra vertical and a straight key.
Went off the air in in 2004 due to lack of time, but dusted everything off in the spring of 2010. My station is a humble one but I'm happy camper with it. A Kenwood TS-480 and a keyer made by I2VTT. My dear Yaesu-Munsen FRG-7 receiver takes a portion of my desk but my old "buddy" is as deaf as a RIP stone, sob.My antennas: 3el. Yagi for 20mt, 3el. Yagi for 15mt. and 4el. Yagi for 10mt. Vertical Cushcraft AV-5. Moxon antenna for 20-17-15-12-10 meters.
Former working conditions: Yaesu FT-920, vertical Cushcraft AV-5 for 80-10mt and crossed dipole for 12&17mt.
Interested in US County Hunting in HF. I work CW and SSB as well, little digital but I'll get deeper into it. My favourite bands are 40Mt and 15Mt.
Lived in the Uk for several years, had my studies there and enjoyed the college. Moved to New York,NY and worked for an international enterprise. Moved back to Italy and set up my own company.
I lived in San Fermo della Battaglia (Como) from1995 to 2014. It is a nice village 2 miles far from Como City and 1 mile from HB9 border.
Hope to get you on air soon, if you hear me, just bump in, I'll be glad to have a QSO with you.
-----------------NOTICE-----------------
Please be sure to log me as IK2SGL/OA9 and NOT OA9/IK2SGL. I receive a big quantity of digital and physical QSLs with the wrong callsign. Here in Peru it seems that those who use a CEPT licence must put the OAn as a suffix. Also many complain that it should be /OA and not /OA9. I am really sorry but this is wrong according to Peruvian regulations and reciprocity to CEPT Recommendation T/R 61/01 which states:
PERU...OA...The letters OA, to be followed with a number indicating the zone in Peru from which the station is operated, form a suffix to the national call sign of the operator.
I believe it is clear enough. That's why I have been asked to put the area too. I hope this clarification closes this chapter definitely. If you feel you do not agree or do not feel this is not a valid callsign, simply ignore me and do not call me...
Ok now I can bump into my bio...
-----------END OF NOTICE-----------
2018
This station is located in the Amazon Forest, Peru. I'm active mostly on Mondays.
I am active on 6-160meters.
Radio: Kenwood 480sat and a Yaesu FT891
Ampl.: None, (if you have an old spare one to donate...HI:)
Antennas: Inverted L antenna for 40-80-160meters and a 20/40 dipole.
I moved to the Peruvian selva with my wife Sally. We are international volunteers in a worldwide education program. We contact and help the indigenous people of the region: the Awajun people. There is nothing better than help others and use our own energies and resources to give a hope to people. I firmly believe that the Holy Bible does give good counsels and a real hope for the future. (Psalms 37:10,11,29) We are not paid nor do we have a confortable life as we used to have but we are happy. I have very little time for radio but I enjoy contacting people al over the world and practising my Italian,English,Spanish,Tagalog, Shipibo and now Awajun.
The area 9 of Peru is pretty rare. At the moment I have no news of other hams active in the area. So if you need this prefix, just look for me aroung 22.00utc on 20 meters. I also have a twitter channel where I usually tweet when I am on air if internet available.
You may have some spare parts or equipment you do not use and you wish to donate. In case you feel our mission deserve some help please feel free to contact me. At the moment what I would need is:
directional antennas (even that need maintenance, I can fix them)
headset
some pl-259
an amp
