Biography

Andrew Lancaster G0JCC

IO82MA

First gained ‘B Class” licence in 1983 as G1DMO. Upgraded to Full A Class Licence in 1988 as G0JCC. I am grateful to the guy who first got me interest in Amateur Radio - Geoff G8PPQ and for my CW instructor Bill G3LMS (ex Signals).

Initial interests were for VHF, Tropo, MS and Au. After gaining Full licence I did use CW extensively but I am not as proficient now.

Jobs, Family and life got in the way a bit over the years but my interest was gradually rekindled over the last 10 years.

I moved to current location in 2018. A good position for VHF and up. I am at 250metres with a clear take off from North West through to South West. As GM3SEK says, if you don’t have a good location then move to a better one! Early success on VHF and up shows that you can’t beat location, location, location!

Contesting – following my house move I am now a member of the Hereford Amateur Radio Society HARS who are very active contesters! I am playing an active role in the RSGB Tuesday contests….and enjoying it!

CW…I should get the key out and give this more of a go…maybe one day!

Thanks for looking me up.

Equipment

Equipment

A handful of handhelds, basic SDR

HF – Icom IC7400, Kenwood TS530S, Yaesu FT101 (in need of some renovation)….main antenna has been a doublet

VHF – Icom 7400, Kenwood TS790E, Yaesu FT290R (with Mutek)….currently working with a home brew 7 element DL6WU yagi

UHF – Kenwood TS790E, Yaesu FT790R…home brew 13 element DL6WU yagi

SHF – Kenwood TS790E (lucky enough to find the 23cm module on a well know auction site and it works well)….with a 32 element DL6WU yagi

Digi – currently dabbling with Digi – WSJT-X.

Future Projects

HF – no antenna up yet. I have a doublet in the garage which I will erect in the Summer

6M – I am not that experienced with this band (I think I am the only one!) so I aim to have a modest yagi functional for the 2019 Sporadic E season.

2m – a medium term plan to invest more in this band which I still like as much as any. Masthead LNA and a PA will take the biggest investment.

70cm and 23cm – I have modest kit but don’t make enough use of it…yet.
