| Biography My path to HAM began at an early age, when I became interested in radio technology, following the example of my older brother. I built my first detector receiver, the so-called crystal radio, when I was about ten.
The interest to radio continued and in 1959 I began to study radio technology at the Tallinn Polytechnic.
The first contact with amateur communication was in the 1960s, when I began to participate in the activities of the radio club at Polytechnic called UR2KAB.
Between 1961 and 1963, I participated in this club in some of the first UHF summer outdoor competitions in Estonia — the so-called field days.
After graduating in 1964, I entered the Tallinn Polytechnic Institute and began an evening form of study.
This form of study did not give a grace period from military service that would be necessary to complete the study. After three years of compulsory military service, relations with amateur radio ceased for 50 years.
My good friend, the namesake, the course companion, now unfortunately, the silent key, ES2DW encouraged me to continue with this hobby in 2013.
I am very happy be back, because this hobby is a great reward for me when I retire.
