Biography

Ham radio OP since 1982, DOK A07 Karlsruhe in the DARC (German amateur radio club).

My main interests are CW, QRP digital modes PSK31, JT65, JT9, FT8 and FT4
(thanks to Joe Taylor K1JT) using state of the art SDR transceivers from FlexRadio and Elecraft
and SDR receivers from Elad, RFSpace and WinRadio. I am a FlexRadio Elmer.
You can find a lot of my posts and tutorials at the FlexRadio community page https://community.flexradio.com/flexradio/.

For PSK31 etc. I use HamRadioDeluxe and for FT8, FT4, JT65 and JT9 WSJT-X,
which I strongly recommend.

My aim is to work as many countries as possible with my limited antennas and
10 watts maximum power.

My newest activites are collecting SOTA (Summits On The Air) and GMA (Global Mountain Activity)
mountain points. If you have 1000 or more points you become a mountain goat like me since 2024-6-17 ;-)
This is a lot of fun, as I like walking and the combination of nature and ham radio is just great!
My radios are either the Elecraft KX3 or the TX-500 Discovery.
Antennas are a vertical or a dipole.

I am responsible for our local FM/C4FM repeater DB0UK. Our hometown Karlsruhe
has 2m, 70cm and 23cm repeaters with the digital modes DMR,C4FM and D-Star.

Our DARC club is A07 Karlsruhe, where we meet every Saturday and twice each month
Friday evening.

As a physician (MD) I also am a member of the German Red Cross and the local EMCOMM team,
operating a complete PACTOR EMCOMM station from our club and at home.
We are also using VARA and VARA chat to connect EMCOMM teams and transfer files.

We also use AREDN to mesh EMCOMM stations using chat, telephone and data transfer.
Our team uses DMR radios to connect to repeaters with their own emergency power supply.
