Biography
I received my Technician License in December 2014, General License in February 2015, and Extra License in March 2015! That's a little crazy but once I got started studying I decided to just keep going......
Did some two meter Nets on the local repeaters but didn't do much else until I discovered JT65 :-) Right now I'm enjoying HF on my Yaesu FT-450D using JT65 digital mode!!! And I can do it on 25 watts and a simple. cheap end fed wire antenna.
I want to try for some LOTW and eQSL awards on JT65. I've hit Argentina, Australia, and Belgium using my simple wire antenna located in Ohio. And so far I've got 30 states in about one month of effort...
Ham Radio is a great hobby and the digital modes make it possible to have a lot of fun for a modest investment of time and money.......I highly recommend it!
Equipment
Currently I use a Yaesu FT-450D for JT65 and JT9 QSOs.
I'm alternating between a Kenwood V71 and a Yaesu 2900 for VHF and UHF.
I recently obtained an Icom 7100 that I will be using for all modes and bands.....
My antenna system is an end fed 43 ft. wire with LDG tuner for HF.
And an Ed Fong modified J Pole for VHF/UHF.
I plan to upgrade my antenna system soon.....
