Biography

Hello all,

I passed the foundation level exam in March 2012 and the intermediate in September 2012 at the Widness and Runcorn Amateur Radio Club. I am currently studying for the full licence.

I am a member of the South Cheshire Amateur Radio Society (G6TW). I also happen to be the admin of the club website (please take a look!).

My collection of radio equipment currently consists of:

Handhelds
Tytera MD-380 UHF DMR, Baofeng GT-3TP MKIII with INF-661 long antenna, a Wouxun KG-699E (4m) with 2 aftermarket antennas (large centre loaded and a smaller less efficient).

Currently I don't have a shack so these radios are used occaisonally portable or mobile.

Simoco(Philips) FM1000 for 4m FM, Yaesu FT-857D.

Mobile
Yaesu FT-7900e with handsfree kit in the car. Usually monitoring GB3CR when mobile around the Chester area.

I enjoy activating hill tops (SOTA and HEMA) on 2m and 70cm FM, SSB and DMR(70cm only). I use my FT857 with a 12Ah LiFePO battery and 3 element SOTAbeam for 2m, and my MD380 handheld.

I have recently acquired a 23cm transverter and 23element beam for 23cm. Looking forward to using this when out portable.

I have also started to make a few QSOs on the SO-50 satellite.

I sometimes operate from my friend Dave MW6IQF's shack as 2W0SEY/A in Johnstown, Wrexham IO83la

Sometimes operating /p from Mow Cop(~300m ASL) and Hope Mountain (near Wrexham) on various bands.

The old mobile shack parked up at Mow Cop. Pictured are the SG-7900 on a triple mag mount and a 10m quarter wave whip on a mag mount (only mounted when parked up!).

The old car with the 23cm yagi mounted next to it on Mow Cop.

The New mobile shack parked at Hope Mountain. Same radio and antennas as the old car, but this time on hatchback mounts vs magmounts.

From left to right, you can see my mobile phone mount and USB-C charging cable, the FT-7900e head, the PTT toggle switch with TX LED and the little clip on microphone.
