December 2010: A contact between Anthony VK3JIA in Kilsyth, and Dave VK3ASE in Carnegie on the 160 metre ham radio band, 1843 kHz, using around 100 watts of amplitude modulation from both transmitters. The stations are around 25 km apart. A quick tour of the antennas and transmitter 'shacks' of both operators are shown, and a 'contact' is seen in operation. Anthony VK3JIA has since moved from the location shown in the clip. Anthony's transmitter is entirely home-constructed, Dave's transmitter is a converted long-wave non-directional aviation beacon (NDB) originally intended for low frequency (c350kHz) operation (the old Ripley 'RPY' beacon). Clip shot with a Kodak Zi8 pocket video recorder @ 720p HD.
