I quickly formed some copper wire into a rough top hat to see what effect it would have on the Yaesu ATAS120 screwdriver antenna.
Surprisingly it still tuned all bands from 40m to 10m (except 12m).
This is a quick and dirty prototype and a better one is on the way.
SWR range with six random elevated radials is 1.15 to 1.30 on 40m to 10m.
