This CONTEST is based on the Russian tradition to celebrate each year two “New year” days – one based on Gregorian Calendar and other on Julian Calendar. This tradition started in 1918 when our country switched from Julian Calendar to Gregorian one (used now in majority of world countries).

The ONY CONTEST (ONY - Old New Year) is sponsored by "Radio" Magazine (Russia). All participants of ONY 2013 will get UPOL replica QSL to commemorate 75 years of this ever first drifting polar station "North Pole".

Date. The second Saturday of January, 5 to 9 UTC. For 2013 - January 9.

Bands. 10 to 80 meters, no WARC.

Modes. CW and SSB.

Participants. Hams worldwide.

Entry classes. Single operator – CW HIGH, Single operator – CW LOW, Single operator – SSB HIGH, Single operator – SSB LOW, Single operator –MIXED HIGH, Single operator –MIXED LOW, Single operator - on the air 50 years or more HIGH, Single operator - on the air 50 years or more LOW, Single operator - sum of operator age and number of years on the air 100 years or more HIGH, Single operator - sum of operator age and number of years on the air 100 years or more LOW, Multi operator HIGH, Multi operator LOW, SWL. LOW POWER is 100 W or less. Multiband entry only.

SSB operators during this CONTEST mostly use Russian, but CW part is really international.

Valid QSO. All, including own QTH. QSO with the same station are allowed on different bands and for MIXED entry also on the same band but in different mode.

Exchange. RS(T) and two or three figures showing sum of operator age and number years on the air. Multi-op stations transmit "team average age" (sum of operators ages divided by number of operators) plus number of years the station exist.

Points. Each QSO scores points as received in contest exchange. No multiplier is used in this Contest. Final score is a sum of points for all bands.

Awards. Winners will receive plaques (MULTI OP) and medals (SINGLE OP). Top ten in each entry class will receive «Radio» Magazine contest certificates.

Logs. Not later than January, 27 2013 to contest@radio.ru . Please use cabrillo format and send your log as attachment. As “Subj” of letter show only ONY-RADIO XXXXXX (XXXXX – your call sign). You may also upload your log via WEB-interface ua9qcq.com.
