Biography

FOR MOST UP TO DATE BIO, CHECK MY QRZ.COM PAGE

I was introduced to amateur radio by my Elmer and friend, Scott (N2VIX). He approached me from the emergency services side of amateur radio, knowing I was a firefighter/emergency medical technician. I took my Technician test on 14 Jan 12. My systematic callsign, KD2BMU, was issued 30 Jan 12. I took my General test 16 Feb 13 and upgrade posted 25 Feb 13. My vanity callsign, WX2CIB, was issued on 20 Oct 15. Information about my vanity call; WX - I am a storm spotter, CIB - Combat Infantryman's Badge (in honor of my service in the US Army)

I reside in Northern New York, just 12 miles North of Alexandria Bay, New York (home of Bolt Castle and Thousand Island Salad Dressing), 30 miles from Fort Drum (10th MTN DIV), in the Town of Hammond, St. Lawrence County. I live about 3 miles from the St. Lawrence River and the 1000 Islands.

I joined the Army in January 2002, did one station unit training (OSUT) at FT. Benning, GA. My first and only duty station was 2nd Battallion 22nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division. I have served three combat tours overseas. My deployments include Afghanistan 2003-04, Iraq 2005-06 & 2007-08. I left the Army with an Honorable Discharge in 2009. I use amateur radio as my therapy for my PTSD.

I can generally be reached on 146.925(-) or 147.255(+) pl 151.4. Also check APRS, as I may have my APRSDroid running, WX2CIB-5. I usually have the frequencies I am monitoring listed on there.

Join us every morning at 0730 EST, we have a net called Sully's International Rooster Roster, as we talk away about trivia, weather, or just general chat. We are currently using 147.135(+) from Fine, NY while repairs are done to 147.255 (The 255 is back on the air with an antenna only 30' up). Echolink is available by connecting to WA2NAN-R or AC2GE-R.

Every evening at 1830 EST on 146.925(-), is the Q Net.

My friend, Mitch-KE7WWT, had loaned me his QRP rig (IC-703+). I had a blast trying to make contacts with 10 watts. My farthest contact is 4,746 miles on 20 meters using USB. Thanks Mitch.

I am now a regular NCS on the 72Chew - 7.272 LSB, Sundays 0815-0900 and Thursdays 1000-1100. For more information check us out at www.72chew.net.

On 6 January 2017, I received my SignaLink digital interface. I have been very active on the JT65 frequencies and have about 130 contacts since. My best contact so far is to RI1AND, Novolazarevskaya Base in Antartica.
