Biography

First licensed in 1976 as WN9TKA, while living in the Chicago, IL area then to Advanced as WB9TKA. Following my move to Texas in 1979, later upgraded to Extra and obtained the current WB5TKA call.

Operation consists of a mix of digital modes (mostly RTTY, Hell and PSK31) and phone or CW for occasional DX chasing. A lot of my digital mode operating is "remote". Sitting in the family room with my wife in the evening operating through a remote control computer system to the computer attached to and controlling the Kenwood TS-2000. Digital mode operating is mostly QRP at power levels of less than 5 watts. I am a real fan of Six and always enjoy catching - that is if I'm available at the time - band openings.

I did a lot of mobile HF operating in years past but my travel habits don't lend themselves to that now. Over all operating here is limited due to having too many varied activities going on at the same time.

Work wise, semi-retired in the medical electronics field service business. Still involves some work related travel but not as much as in the past. Sideline business consists of a consignment sales business (on line) featuring collectibles and collectible dolls. My ham radio web site (http://www.dooleystreasurechest.com/wb5tka/) offers consignment sales of ham radio related equipment.

Other activities and interests with my wife: Advanced photography, travel (for fun), kayaking, bicycling, mountain trail hiking and a long list of other time killers.

Equipment

Kenwood TS-2000; Drake R-4B/T-4XB; Yaesu FT-902DM; Antenna: Butternut HF9V elevated to 18 ft. (5.5 metres) at the base with tuned radials covering 80-6 m.
