Biography

Licensed in July 1956 as KN0GXX. Was 13 and in Jr highschool. Went on to Des Moines Tech and was enrolled in Communications Electronics. Earned general Class Ham Ticket and Frist class Radio telephone Licenses while in Highschool. Enjoyed 6 meters and some CW while in HS. Went on to work for lenkurt Electric, San Carlos, CA right out of HS. Traveled and did a one year project in BV land as top secret cleared electronics tech. Went on to grand view College and war came along, joined Iowa National Guard and graduated from OCS in 1967 as 2nd Lt, Arty. graduated from St Ambrose U. Davenport, IA with BA Degree in Accounting and Biz Admin. License was changed to W9LQI and upgraded while at St Ambrose. Worked with Arthur Andersen for 8 yrs in Chgo, so busy no time for ham radio. In 1979 while employed as controller of Stepan Chemical, this ham discovered DX and have enjoed operating and chasing DX ever since.

Moved to Calif in 1985 and started small business and have been a /6 ever since. I like to operate the HF bands, mostly CW, but enjoy a rag chew too.

Rig is ICOM 735 and ICOM 746, open wire fed antennas, and a 3 ele 20/15/20 beam. Also have a vertical for 10 thru 40 meter operation. Goal is to get better radiators on 80 and 160 with the generally weak prop we're experiencing

Hope to hear you on, Gud DX To You and Yours.
