Biography

I first got started as WN6NFT in 1964 in Lodi, California, as a Sophomore in High School. My elmer was Dr. Walter Howen, WB6KMM, now a silent key.

I operated as WB6NFT since 1965. I moved to Virginia in 1983, I am now W4NFT as of June 17th, 2003. I live 9 miles east of Lynchburg, Virginia, near a small community of Thomas Terrace and operate 160 meters thru 6 Meters and 2 meter FM. I am also active on the 3905 CCN on SSB on 160, 75 & 40 Meters. I can usually be found on 12 or 10 meters SSB. I am trying to get my WAS on 12 meters.

I am a retired printer, my first printing job was at End-Kian Publishing Co. in Lodi, California in 1965. When I moved to Virginia with my wife, we started our own printing and design company. That ended with my stoke in 2004, and I retired.

In 2001, my wife had a massive stroke. She was paralized on her left side and became wheelchair bound. I took care of her until 2010, when she was place in a rest home. My wife passed away on June 28, 2015. I am a mouth cancer survivor, so please forgive my slurred speech on occasion. My mouth drys out because of the radiation treatment, which destroyed my saliva glands.

The rig here is a Yaesu FT-920 running 100 watts and the antenna is Hustler 5-BTV trap vertical and 6 Meter loop. My most recent antenna is a 160-6 Meter Windom Multi-Band Dipole, which I run 100 watts with this antenna most of the time.

Thanks for looking and 73, Jim.
