Biography

I support the DX Code Of Conduct and you can too. You can check it out at http://www.dx-code.org .

My main amateur radio web page is at http://www.w4hm.org . It is a gateway of sorts to many other web pages on the subject of amateur radio to include antenna projects, solar, space and geomagnetic weather and radio wave propagation and last but not least meteorology including weather forecasting and observing.

If you would like to receive a free comprehensive daily MF/HF/6M radio wave propagation forecast, check it out W4HM Daily MF/HF/6M Radio Wave Propagation Forecast http://www.solarcycle24.org and also mirrored at http://www.wcflunatall.com/propagation.htm .

If you are interested in meteorology check out Lakeland, FL Daily Climatological Weather Data Archive at http://www.lakelandfloridaweather.org and Harmful Man Induced (Anthropogenic) Global Warming (Climate Change) Refuted at http://www.globalwarminglie.org .

I have many interests within the hobby. I enjoy antenna design via modeling, construction and experimentation, DX'ing, contesting, QRP operation via CW and the digital modes, digital modes operation such as BPSK31, JT65A, JT9, MFSK16, OLIVIA and RTTY. Also traditional AM, CW and SSB mode operation. I operate on 160-6 meters.

Recently I sold off allot of my radio equipment that I had collected during the past 8 years, as I was running out of space in my 12' x 13' radio room. My current station setup is an Icom IC-7600, an Ameritron AL-80B amplifier and a Palstar BT-1500A balanced antenna tuner.

I also have a Kenwood TS-590S which is dedicated to QRP operation on digital modes such as JT65A and JT-9. As of September 1, 2013 my QRP totals are 66 worked 43 confirmed as far as DXCC and 39 worked and confirmedas far as WAS. Most of my QSO's have been with 1 watt.

Antenna #1 is a 128 ft long inverted L with a 60 foot vertical section over 25 64 foot long radials and 1 127 foot long radial for 160 meters. It is fed with 82 feet of RG-213U coax. I also use an 8 foot in diameter coaxial receive loop on 160 meters. Check it out at W4HM 160 Meter 8 Foot Diameter Balanced Coaxial Receive Loop http://www.wcflunatall.com/nz4o14.htm .

I'm a 160 meter aficionado and I've been on the band since 1989. I currently have 157 DXCC entities confirmed on the band.

Antenna #2 is a 288 foot long horizontal loop up at 35 feet for 80 through 6 meters. It is fed with 41 feet of 300 ohm window line to a Palstar BT-1500A balanced antenna tuner. Check it out at W4HM 80-10 Meter Horizontal Loop Antenna http://www.wcflunatall.com/nz4o15.htm .

I am an active QSL'er. I use ARRL LOTW and eQSL only. I don't use QRZ or paper QSL cards and therefore not the Bureau either.

Previous callsigns are as follows. Novice in 1989 as KC4ONQ, Technician & General in 1990 as N4YPV, Advanced in 1990 as KN4LF, Advanced in 1993 as KN6YO, Advanced in 1994 as KG0NY, Advanced in 1998 as KU4QV, Advanced in 1999 as KN4LF vanity, Extra in 2008 as KN4LF vanity, Extra in 2009 as NZ4O vanity. Extra in 2013 as W4HM vanity. No more callsign changes!!!

I'm medically retired military, the U.S. Coast Guard. I actually served between 1976 and 1988. In the military amongst many other things I worked in radio communications, as well as terrestrial level aviation and marine weather forecasting/pilot briefings and physical oceanographic research.

I also worked in space and terrestrial level weather forecasting for some private weather forecasting companies, other federal government entities and in my consulting business. I have a total of 40+ years experience in space and terrestrial weather forecasting. I retired from space and terrestrial weather forecasting in 2004.

I also have education in and 17 years experience in the national security arena, law enforcement, prison corrections, private investigations, loss prevention. I medically retired from law enforcement in 1999. The law enforcement career provided me with health insurance benefits for my family but it also meant years and years of 18 hour work days. Very stressful.

I'm an active SWL going back to 1965. I regulary DX and listen to programming on the LF, MF and SW bands. I also do some utility station DXing. I currently belong to the Medium Wave Circle, a MF club based in Great Britian. Their web page is http://www.mwcircle.org and I highly recommend the club. There is no fighting and intrigue in it like in the state side clubs.

Last but not the least I'm a born again Christian having accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior on Apri 1, 2004, no joke. As a Christian I am not perfect but simply forgiven. As a fallible human being I still do sin on occasion and when I do I ask for forgiveness, receive it via the grace of God and move forward. If you would like to get to know Jesus Christ check out my ministry web page "Do You Know Jesus Christ?" at http://www.jesuschristissavior.com or click on the button below.
