Biography

As long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with electronics and radio.

I was first introduced to amateur radio as a college student majoring in electrical technology back in 1979.

I received my Novice ticket in 1986 and shortly thereafter, upgraded to Technician.

I became very active in local ham radio clubs and after joining RACES, volunteered as an emergency communications coordinator for the local Office of Emergency Management within township of Cresskill, NJ (my home QTH at the time). I found it to be a great experience and was able to learn quite a bit about emergency traffic handling.

After about ten years or so, I moved to a different part of the state and wound up taking a lengthy hiatus from amateur radio.

In late 2016, finally having some much needed time to dedicate to the hobby, I decided to get back into it. After a couple of weeks of study, I was able to upgrade to Amateur Extra and began to put together a new station.

Being relatively new to HF, I started working SSB on the 20 and 40 meter bands for the first time using an attic dipole antenna and so far been really impressed with the results. Going forward, my primary focus will be to construct new and better antennas for HF and hopefully be able to put up a decent tower at some point. Iā€™m also looking forward to exploring some of the digital modes.

I also have many other hobbies and interests, including composing and recording music (https://www.reverbnation.com/andrewmoon ) that I am more than happy to discuss and share.

Thanks for visiting! I look forward to meeting you on the bands!
