Biography
Retired from being a Broadcast Engineer for 40+ Years.
I am again a Contact Volunteer Examiner for W5YI. I did this in DeKalb, IL for several years in th 1990s. Now for the Raytown, MO Radio Club, RARC.
I tutor Folks who have more than average challenges to pass Amateur Radio License exams.
I get on the bands for fun. I am not really a DXer or Contester. I really enjoy working Field Day. I have operated the WW1USA memorial station for several Special Events.
I live just off the Santa Fe Trail.
At my previous QTH I had a 160M horizontal Loop at 8M. This is the greatest antenna. If you can possibly put up a horizontal loop-DO IT. It is worth the time and effort. At 8M high, it behaved like a beverage on 160, 80, & 40. It was sooo quiet. Even with thunderstorms in the area, I could still work stations. That said it also was a poor performer for giving realistic S Meter readings. The other Station would be armchair copy but only show S1 to S3.
I now have a 75M horizontal loop up at my present QTH. I am looking forward to working you using it so that I can get a feel for the coverage it provides.
