Biography

Clubs: Nanaimo Amateur Radio Association, EPC #18779, PODX 070 # 2056, DMC#07758

Presently active on PSK31 usually 20M but on all SSB HF, (10, 15, 20, 40 and 80 meters), VHF, UHF, APRS (VE7GDA). Just getting back into contesting but always looking for a good Rag Chew. Known generally as The Crabbyoldbugger, just Google "crabbyoldbugger" for all about me.

Driving a Cushcraft A4S with the 40M add on. Yaesu FT-840 approaching 150 watts through a Versa tuner. My noise platform is fairly high, but usually chase DX early in the morning, usually around 13:00 Z.

Main activity has been digital of late. Do very little monitoring of frequencies above 6M. When new shack is completed I may try some satellite activity. Have to relocate all my towers and will see what transpires.

Active as a net controller for the BC Boater's Net and maintain a registered AIS station as 2186-Cowichan Bay. Use qrz.com as main log, eQSL and LOTW (monthly batch update only). Respond to all QSL cards sent.

Originally licensed in VE6 land, but assigned VE7GDA when relocated to British Columbia. Licensed Marine callsign VE0DTW, my initials. I now hold VE7BH as my main callsign. This callsign was originally assigned to Donald Hings (SK), the inventor of the Walkie Talkie (no Motorola did not beat him).

Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Hings

He was a Canadian working out of Trail BC for Cominco when WW2 broke out.

I have not done any "Blue Water Sailing" of late, but still hold the Marine Callsign of VE0DTW, my initials.

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
