Biography

Been a ham since 1975. Active in CQWW phone test, and chasing dx.
Retired from work in the automotive industry.
Previous call VE7AVU, and have held J69ED.
I also hold the call VA7TT.
I hold DXCC, WAZ, WAS. DXCC count 275, mostly SSB.
Other hobbies: travelling (Caribbean in particular), photography, and my 1974 Dodge Challenger.

I'm not active on EQSL, but that will change in the near future. I do respond 100% to all QSL cards received. If mailing direct, a SASE or $2.00US appreciated, buro works just fine too.

I look forward to meeting other members of this group on the air.

Worked DXCCs:

Equipment

My new rig is the YAESU FT950. So far so good, but until I've had it on the air for 6 months or so, I won't really comment on it until then. I run only 100 watts.
Antenna is a 6 element tri-band at 50 feet, and I use an inverted VEE for 40 and 80. Nothing overly special, but it works for me very well.

I've had many backup rigs in the past as I like to try out different radios to see how they perform. Some good, some not so good in my opinion. Current backup rig is an older Icom, the IC751A and it's a fine, fine radio for it's age. It's now wonder that they are sought after, highly thought of, and very seldom come up for sale. Mine is in as new condition, and recently came back from MTS (thanks Scott. It was aligned, the trimmer caps replaced and the memory ram problem taken care of.

I use WIN EQF for logging purposes and AC LOG for the CQWW contest. Both programs allow rig control, and of course access to the local DX cluster VE7CC.

Well, some new changes. I've moved over to Vancouver Island a couple of years ago and had to make some major changes both in the shack and the antenna farm. The shack is now just the operating desk and chair, with the rest of the room taken up with other items to make it more friendly for all to use the room. The antenna is now an MJF1788 Hi Q loop covering 40 to 15 meters, while nowhere near as good as the previous antennas, it does get me on the air. With WIN EQF no longer supported or available(very sad to see it gone) LOG40M is now my logging program. I still have the FT950, but with the lack of available space the IC751A has a new owner. The. FT950 has proven to me to be a very good radio.
My new email address is: abc7@telus.net

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
