Biography

Thank you for visiting my qrzcq-page.

My name is Arno, born in 1965 in the Netherlands and still living there.

Sometime about 1977 my uncle Jac (PA0JKW) showed me his wonderful shack and my interest in amateur radio started. I was too young for a ham-licence so I started with listening. This started with an old Philips vacuum tube radio with short wave bands. More serious receivers like the Kenwood R5000 came much later.

For various reasons, only since 2013 I got my (full) radio amateur licence. This was done with the help of Johan (PA3GER) who gave inspiring lessons and provided compact and to-the-point teaching materials. The practical experience was gained at “Het Fort”, the VERON A08 club station PI4UTR.

One main reason for getting my licence (at last) was that I (also) like to build my own equipment and with a licence I was allowed to do such and test and use the equipment.

In march 2014 I started my first HF QSO's with a borrowed mobile 10 meter set.
In may I bought a beautiful second hand TS-570DG and started working on some lower bands.

My equipment:
- Kenwood TS-570DG
- Heathkit SB-104a (not working correctly, still needs serious repair ☹ )
- Icom IC-T70E (dualband porto)
- Some homebrew qrp cw-transmitters and dedicated Rx (VLF, BITX-20, Jupiter 20,1 MHz Rx ect.)
- Kenwood R5000 and Lowe HF-225 for SWL.

My Antenna’s for the transceivers and Rx are all inverted-V under the roof of our attic.
(QRV 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 meters phone. 2 m and 70 cm FM phone)
I use a 5 meter "short" long wire antenna for 20 meters.

I’m sometimes using a home brew manual antenna tuner.
A small one... So you won’t see or hear me using more than 50 Watts with these antennas and tuner.
