Setting up automatically controlled data stations near 1.81, 3.585, 7.100, 10.145, 14.095, 14.110, 18.105, 21.100, 24.925, and 28.150 in both NC and TN with plans to expand further if indicated by traffic volume and user needs.
Currently these data stations use ALE and other methods to conduct their linking, are online only part time as we are testing new software and hardware to reduce the potential of interference to other users of the bands. The work is promising but at times slow as we test things, find snags and head back to the drawing board to figure out how to work out the kinks.
For those who have helped, THANK YOU. For those who have been interferred with, We're sorry (and we hope it was brief and minimal). For those who suffered in silence, Please Email us so that we can improve our methods and technology.
Repeaters being installed in TN, NC, and VA. Will support linking, analog and digital, and some will support other features such as internet linking.
The D-STAR systems are NOT currently linked to the backbones or the internet. We realize that this lack of functionality is a major issue and are working to get the systems tested and online. Contact any repeater control op for more info.
The P25 systems are hardly seeing use. While this is expected, we're curious as to why the radios we distrubuted to local and not so local hams are not being utilized.
NOTES:
Most of the machines and automated stations are not online full time. We had a host of kinks to iron out and decided that a control op should be monitoring any operations. Malicious QRM is being investigated and once resolved, the machines should be online more regularly. Please feel free to try out the links and features anytime we have them up.
For those who can't seem to find the machines, email us. (address below)
Some of our members are using HTs and other QRP devices as part time beacons to test propagation or system function. While most of these are completely legal and in the spirit of ham radio, there are still a few that are apparently not operating optimumly. If you happen across one of these errant transmitters, either email the operator, or the club (esp. for those with the club call as ID).- Some use the Vertex Standard ranging system and this has caused a few minor issues. Please rest assured that we are working to reduce the small amount of interference we've been informed of and maximize the benefits to the society through intelligent experimentation in the long standing spirit of amateur radio.
