Biography
Born while Hitler was storm trooping his way through Europe. Grew up during the HAPPY DAYS period of the 50's, (I actually knew a FONZ like character during high school.) I was licensed 2 months before Sputnick. I remember tuning in it's signal while it passed over my first ham station in St Louis, Missouri. After HS and 4 years at university also Viet Nam and all of that during the 60's; I have been lurking in Southern California since. I'm retired now. I don't do anything of importance. I busy my time involved with my electronic hobby and ocassionally doing battle with the various radio greminlins hanging about my stuff.
For instance: The TA-33 in the picture is what my station will look like AGAIN after I reinstall the TA-33 the wind blew down last month. This time the NEW rotator will go INSIDE the tower. I used RG-213 as the feedline before and I had to unite a couple sections together using barrel SO-230s and PL-259 connectors. I knew there were lossy areas in the over all transmission line. I calculate 3 DBD accumulated loss in connectors alone at 30 MHZ!
This time I will use lower loss LMR-400 with no other connections between the antenna and the coax connector going into the amplifier, (optomistic I know). That connector will be silver plated. The coax change plus the lack of the multiple coupler loss will be noticible on 15 meters & especially on 10. I'm calculating a 4+ DBD overall transmission line improvement at 30 MHZ over the existing jury rigged scheme.
That is huge!
Perhaps the wind did me a favor after all. ;)
Equipment
