Biography

Hard to believe I've been in the hobby over five years now. I'm a former US Army and FAA air traffic controller. Retired deputy Sheriff, retired commercial pilot, retired amateur sports car racing driver, just plain retired I guess. Latest avocation; writing. Search Amazon dot com under books under my name to see what I've published.

I'm also a paranormal investigator, so if you need some "Ghost Busting...."

I enjoy DX the most. Contesting never captured my interests. Also work the Air Forces Flyers Club net daily on 14.290 at 0830 Pacific time.

Equipment

I've got a beautiful, restored Drake 'C' line system, Swan 350A, and Swan 500C when I'm feeling nostalgic. Other times I use my recently acquired Yaesu FTdx 1200. My Icom 718 will replace the TenTec Scout in the motor home. Amps are an SB-200 or Drake L-4.

I particularly enjoy experimenting with wire antenna's. An 80 meter inverted V, a 40 meter horizontal loop, and the latest project is a Hex beam. The 'HB' is purely experimental, but works like a champ! (I say experimental because the only similarity it has to a real Hex Beam is the shape of the antenna). I also build my own baluns.

I built the desk in the picture. It's 8' X 3', and on wheels so when I need to work on the backs of the gear I just roll it away from the wall.
