Biography
I became an amateur novice in February of 1983. My first rig was a Heathkit HW-101, I upgraded to an Advanced class license in November. I then started to look at some newer radios, and in 1985 I decided to purchase a Kenwood TS-830S from Erickson Communications in Chicago. I operated the TS-830 for 27 years!
I have recently upraded to a Kenwood TS-590s radio. I use a Behringer C-1 microphone at the present time, and that goes into a Behringer Ultragain Pro Mic2200 Preamp, from there I use an XLR to 8 pin adapter cable to the Kenwood 590. I also have an Ameritron AL-80B amplifier for a little extra power. I also have a Heathkit SB-200 as a standby to go along with the TS-830s.
The antenna I use for HF 80 thru 10 meters is an 88 ft. Doublet up around 40 feet high. It is made from 14 gauge insulated stranded wire fed in the center with home brew open wire 600 ohm feedline to a Palstar AT2K antenna tuner with a 1:1 current balun.
I have a 2006 Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide that I ride when weather permits.
