Biography

I got my Technician Ticket in September 2013 and my upgrade to General in April 2014. I started out in the 70's as Yes, one of these CB'ers and continued into the Commercial Radio aspect working part-time as a technician for a few of the radio shops in the Detroit, MI area on my days off from the Fire Department.

I retired in April of 2015 as an Operations Captain for a Detroit area Fire Department, but still continue as a Communications Technician/Leader with the Michigan Region 2 Communications Support Team.

In my spare time, I enjoy tinkering in the shack and the garage, and spending time with my 8 Grandkids of which my 8 year old grandson has a strong interest in spending time with me in the Shack. Hopefully this intrest won't change as he gets older. I'm also an avid recreational rifle and pistol entheusiast, and it's nice to have an XYL and an 8 year old granddaughter with the same intrest. I'll be honest with you, my XYL along with one of our granddaughters is better shot than I am with long rifles, but from what I've seen and read, that's the norm for women.

My direct email is KD8VOX@arrl.net or QSL via QRZ or ARRL 8th Area QSL Bureau

Thanks for stopping by

Equipment

I'm currently running a couple of Motorola CDM 1250's on 70cm/2m and a Ranger 5054DX100 on 6M with a MFJ tri-band duplexer and an MFJ Pulsar Antenna. My HF rig is an ICOM 718 with a using an MFJ-1260 Microphone/Radio Switch using an MFJ-297 Desk Mic and a Stevens SM-750MV Headset along with an MFJ-945E Tuner. My antennas are a Solarcon A-99 Vertical with a ground plane kit at 40 ft. for 10 & 12 M, and a Home Brew End Fed 70 ft long wire at 30 ft. I mobile with a Ranger 2970N2 on 10-12 m and a TYT Quad band on 10m, 6m, 2m & 70cm. I've got a mixed group of HT's including a Baofang, three different flavors of Motorola and a Harris. I can't seen to let go if the Commercial equipment no matter how hard I try.

DX Code Of Conduct

dx code of conduct small logoI support the "DX Code Of Conduct" to help to work with each other and not each against the others on the bands.
