| Biography My interest in radio started in the early 1960's listening to shortwave radio on my father' s Old radio. We collected QSL Cards from all over the world . I became fascinated with the distance radio waves traveled. In the early 70' s I started with 11 m walkie Talkie and was amazed to hear stations from Texas beaming in to my radio stronger than the signal from my friend up the street. Later I built a CW Transmitter from plans in a Popular Electronics magazine . I in turn gave it to a friend and licensed Ham who tested and reported several successful contacts , much to my excitement. The kit was very basic with a coil made from wire around a pill bottle , one tube and a frequency crystal. The requirement for code kept me away from seeking my license , although my Dad and I discussed working on it together. Fast forward 50 years and near retirement I studied and passed the Tech Test and have a lot of fun on 10 m. Over 40 countries logged on QRZ and a dedicated radio room . With the radio bug , I just passed the General Test after taking an 8 Week course. Equipment I. At my primary station I run a Yeasu FT 1200 at 100 W into an IMAX 2000& Dipole .
