Biography

In amateur radio since 1958. I still have my original call. The FCC dropped the N from my Novice when I upgraded to General. I operate nets, DX, JT-65, PSK, RTTY, SSTV and Easypal, I am on 80-6 meters and 144 and 440mhz. I have all mode capability with my IC-7000 from home and operate mobile HF and 144mhz/440mhz in the car with APRS capability. I also have a triband portable. I do mostly SSB now, but I still like to maintain competency in CW. I also like to operate the FM satellites sometimes. I do public service locally with the Virginia Beach Amateur Radio Club. I have also done several emergency operations over the years.
I was a certified Emergency Communications Dispatcher. I was a certified EMT-Paramedic/Firefighter volunteer from 1965-2000. I do administrative work for the city EMS Bureau now. I am still CPR certified although no longer an instructor. I was in the USAF during the Vietnam War am retired since 1992 from the US Navy. I was in Aviation Electronics and I also flew as a RH53D helicopter aircrewman in mine sweeping for 4 years. I worked as a Cardiac Monitor Tech for Sentara Health for 23 years after I retired from the Navy.
Now, I like to still listen to the scanner activity and to aviation ops at NAS Oceana and Norfolk International. I also still do shortwave listening at times and enjoy seeing what I can hear.
I look forward to meeting you on the air. 73, Jim
