Biography

Born in the Bronx I was always interested in "wireless". Got my extra ticket in 2007

I like to make my own antennas. Due to restrictions the antennas have to be stealthy, which makes it more challenging (and more fun). I spray paint them in a camouflage pattern and hoist them up into the tree canopy. Very hard to see.

I'm a Veteran's Administration physician (MD, MPH, FACPM)

I'm a member of the Columbia Amateur Radio Club as well as ARES, RACES and SkyWarn

Unfortunately, I have been off the air for the past few years as I slowly recovered from two types of cancer and their treatments including surgery, radiation therapy and heavy-duty chemo. With the onset of 2017 I have been clearing up my shack (which had turned into a storage area) and am actively working on getting back into HF

Equipment

In a storm I lost my 160m horizontal loop, so I installed a Hustler 6BTV 21' vertical. It's ground-mounted and without radials yet so I can't tune 80 meters.

I like operating PSK31 and have found that my kk7uq IMD meter seems to help quite a bit.

My primary rig is a FlexRadio 5000a and I love it.

I am preparing large battery backup for my FlexRadio, associated computer and twin flat screen displays. This includes two 100aH 12v batteries (with a switch) and an extended UPS which uses six 9aH batteries. I also recently purchased a drone to use to replace my very large horizontal loop... but I have to practice with it first.
