Biography

I am located in Puhoi, 50km North of Auckland CBD, New Zealand - (See http://puhoinz.com). Puhoi is a small rural town which has a population of around 400. The name Puhoi is Maori for slow water, making it the perfect place to spend a lazy Sunday away from the big smoke. This village 35 minutes north of Auckland's CBD is a unique slice of Kiwi history. Early settlers hailed from Bohemia in the Czech Republic originally settled in 1863, and some of their descendants, and those of Maori descent who also lived in the area, still call Puhoi home.

We have four amateur radio operators in this community. This QTH is at an elevation of 250m above sea level with a fall off of 80m.

I have been interested in various forms of Radio Communications for over thirty years. Fully licensed in 2014 and now active on HF, HF Digital modes, D-Star, DMR and V/UHF. Unfortunately due to poor health and ongoing conditions, other interests including boating, fishing and outdoor activities have become very limited.

Equipment

HF equipment includes an FlexRadio Systems FLEX-6500, Icom IC-7610, and audio equipment which connects to an electro-voice RE320 Studio Microphone. A Icom ID-5100, ID-51A and TYT MD-380 are used for analog and digital UHF and VHF communications. The station runs both Mac OS and Windows 10 which all interface to the amateur equipment.

The main antenna is a Mosley PRO-67-B-3 seven element yagi which covers 40 Meters thru 10 Meters. We also use a very effective 94 meter (307 foot) extended double zeppelin dipole which connects to a remote matching unit via 600 ohm ladder line. We also have a homebrew six element 6M Yagi. Amplifiers include a SPE Expert 1.3K and a OM Power HF Amplifier. Current antenna projects include an SAL-30 Apex Loop array and a 2m 7 element yagi.
